My name is Nunu Ngema l am a Photographer from South Africa. Born in the village Mphise in KwaZulu Natal. I am currently based in Breda in the Netherlands were l work as a photographer At the age of 10, my neighbor gave me a Kodak disposable camera she got from her boss, in return, she could send me to the shops anytime she asked me too. I took pictures of friends and family members, l was fascinated by my grandmother’s hands and feet. Those images were total crap but it was fun to do..
l fell in love with photography the first time l saw a picture of the legendary Miriam Makeba. The image was taken by Jan Persson. l had never seen a woman portrait so strong and beautiful. Those images are printed in my memory to this day.
l knew l was in love with something l didn't understand and the chance of learning it was zero since there were not many photographers around that time to act as the role model.. l later took a photography course at the Market photo workshop Johannesburg. But it was not the right time for me. Instead of getting behind the camera l found myself in front of it.
In 2017, living in the Netherlands I again took up a photography course. That’s when l got hooked, and since then l have been active in portraiture, weddings, events, street photography and fashion.
What I love most is taking portraits of people, interacting with them in a way that their character, strength and beauty is captured. l can make anyone at ease in my presence and make them feel confidently beautiful and strong. That comes from my love for traveling and meeting people from all walks of life. l know how to create a calm and easy environment that fits into every setting.
I am now 100% committed to photography l have finally arrived.
